Ten Films To Watch On a Wet Afternoon

Ten Films To Watch On a Wet Afternoon

Sometimes all you want is to curl up on the sofa with an old favourite film, especially when it's howling outside. Here are some of our favourites to snuggle up with.

Notting Hill

Nothing says cosy film like a classic 90’s Hugh Grant film and this one, set in Notting Hill in London, and featuring a transatlantic romance, is one of our favourites. With a brilliant soundtrack and a fantastic cast, this is certainly one to rewatch.

The Sound of Music

The old ones really are the best. Julie Andrews gives a memorable performance as Maria in this film and we guarantee you’ll be singing along before the first song is finished.

Mary Poppins

Sometimes the best films are those much-loved childhood ones. Be transported to another world, one of nannies, talking umbrellas, ceiling tea parties, and pavements that come alive with this sing-along classic.

Pride and Prejudice

Jane Austen really knew what she was doing when she created her hero Mr Darcy. This love story has endured for centuries and is a well-loved classic - argue over which adaptation is the best, but you can’t deny that it’s an irresistible story.

Little Women

The story of these four sisters has proved timeless and the 1994 adaptation of the book remains a winter favourite.

The Parent Trap

One of Lindsey Lohan’s most memorable roles, where she plays two versions of herself. Set between a Californian vineyard and a smart London, this film has plenty of entertaining moments as the switched twins try to step into one another’s life.

13 Going on 30

A fun romantic comedy with plenty of awkward moments, lots of laughs, and a little bit of magic too, starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo.

Bridget Jones Diary

A romantic comedy classic, Bridget Jones is one of those films you can watch again and again, with both Hugh Grant and Colin Firth, this film is one of those ones that will never get old.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

The magic really is captured in the very first Harry Potter film and is the perfect way to escape to a magical world, and enjoy the wonder of the wizarding world with Harry for the first time. Plus you can marvel at how young all the actors now seem!

Mamma Mia

If you want to be reminded of sunnier, warmer days, then Mamma Mia is the perfect film to watch to escape to warmer climes. Set on a Greek island, this all-singing, all-dancing film is the perfect one to get lost in!
