Three Lovely Ways to Treat Your Feet This Winter
Taking time to look after our feet is so important for relaxation, health and wellbeing. Our feet can get forgotten, hidden away in your socks and boots over the winter. Plus, indulging in a little you time during the festive season is the perfect excuse to take a break from busy and demanding preparations and social occasions!
Here are three of our favourite homemade ways to treat your feet this winter.
FOOT SPA
All you need is some Epsom salts, and a bath or bowl of warm water. Cover your feet with the water and add half a cup of Epsom salts. Sit back and relax as you soak your feet for between 30 to 60 minutes. Moisturise your feet afterwards to give your feet the benefits of massage as well as stop them from drying out.
The benefits of foot spas include improving reducing muscle tension, detoxification and cleansing, stress reduction and improved sleep.
FOOT SCRUB
It’s surprisingly easy to make your own foot scrub at home using ingredients in your kitchen cupboard. For a Honey & Lemon Foot Scrub You'll need equal parts Epsom salts, sugar, coconut oil, one tablespoon of honey and 5 drops of lemon juice or essential oil. Combine the ingredients and apply the paste to your feet.
This scrub is a brilliant all round scrub as the lemon juice is antimicrobial it helps to clean the skin whilst the sugar and salts are great for removing dead skin whilst honey helps your skin retain moisture and the Coconut oil being rich in vitamin E helps improves your skins overall health and appearance.
Overall benefits of foot scrubs include boosting blood flow and circulation, reducing muscle tension as well as remove dead skin, calluses and dirt and generally improve the texture of our feet.
FOOT MASSAGE
Foot massage is one of the easiest massages to give yourself. It helps to improve circulation, stimulates muscles, reduces tension, and often eases pain. It also gives you a chance to check out your feet and alert you to any problems.
Loosen your hamstrings with this simple foot massage.
All you need is a tennis ball (or any similar ball) and roll the ball under your foot, covering every part from the toes to the heel, making sure it goes from side to side and heel to toe. You can do this from sitting or standing, but it’ll have more impact if you’re standing. Massage each foot for a couple of minutes each day and you’ll soon notice a difference!
If you’re looking for an extra way to treat your feet, why not invest in a pumice stone or foot file? Or some soft moisturising socks - perfect for slipping on after your foot spa!
